Nursing after possession of controlled substance charge

Published

Hi,

I was hoping anyone might have something to say about this. ANY thoughts appreciated.

About a year ago I was arrested for script fraud and I completed a drug rehab program. I self reported to my state's BON (it was gonna come anyway) and self referred to their professional recovery program. I am in full compliance, jumped through all hoops, etc...

Just to prove that everyone is not equal and all cases treated individually:

My offense was not as severe as other nurses I have met in recovery. I've met quite a few who did EXACTLY what I did. I have (had) no criminal record. After talking to them all, I was expecting to be offered PTI, (with expungement available after completion), as they all were. I also shelled out big $ on a good attorney.

Well, the criminal side doesn't want to offer PTI. They have agreed to offer me a plea of possession of controlled substance with 1 year probation and 6 month suspended sentence. And it will be on my record forever.

I am so sad, and fear the end of a hard earned career, and a future dead end to many others. Anyone out there survive a conviction like this with a salvageablt career? I know everyone's cases will be different, just want to know if there's realistic hope.

Iam also in your shoes with a criminal record, just finished school here in Richmond Va to be a Surgical Tech. Now iam terrifed that every door will be shut in my face. There is a site hard2hire.com that list potential employers who are willing to hire peole with a criminal back ground.
