hello everyone,

i'm a pediatric nurse with three years experience on an adolescent med/surge unit. i have a two year nursing degree and am a licensed rn.

my husband and i are considering moving to the wilmington area (from northern virginia) and i'm wondering what nursing salaries are in the area. i can't seem to get any nurse recruiters to tell me over the phone.

any help would be appreciated.

thank you,

margaret

Hey Margaret,

Just curious why you are considering moving to Wilmington NC??

As for pay scale here for nurses, I know since I have lived in the area for 17yrs, that for me an LPN the wages a low, housing prices are high, taxes are low compared to some areas, rents are high and food prices are not too bad.

Not sure how the RN wages are here but I do know the hospital pays more than office nurses. We have two hospitals both affiliated (New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Cape Fear Hospital)and county owned. So no competion in health care its a monoply.

Novant Healthcare owns a hospital in Brunswick County 30 miles south of Wilmington. A male nurse RN I know went to work there at $30.00 per hr in ICU. They are building a new hospital.

You can go to salary.com and put in zip code 28401 to get an idea of wages here in Wilmington.

Things have slowed down here alot since our economy has taken a turn for the worse. If your husband is in healthcare he can probably get a job here other wise I don't think the job market is very good.

So hope this helps.

I am moving right after Christmas (in 11 days)to Wilmington from southwest Pennsylvania . I have accepted a job on a med-surg floor at New Hanover Regional. I am a new grad RN so obviously you would make more but I was offered $20 base pay which is about average anywhere along the NC Coast from what I have researched. The shift differentials are fantastic though and they will give you your preferred shift if they are able(I got 3 12's 7P-7A) When I interviewed there things were really nice overall. The nurses really get the chance to have a voice in hospital policies and things like that from what I understand. I fell in love with the area when I visited to interview and the people there are very nice (even though they drive much slower than us further north)

I wonder how much difference the RN/BSN would make in pay scale versus just the RN?
