Nursing and Misdemeanor in Florida

Published

I will graduate in May and apply for the NCLEX in Florida. I was arrested for shoplifting (a misdemeanor of the lowest rank) nearly 8 years ago when I was 18 years old. I have since had the record sealed by the courts. Does anyone think this will prohibit me from licensure? If anyone has a similar story or any insight....please help!! Thanks.

Have you spoken with the Board of Nursing? This might be your best route to take. In addition, talk with your nursing school program advisor or department chair, they are always a good resource in answering these types of questions.

I have known several nurses that had old records that did not prevent them from sitting for state boards and getting licensed, but your best bet would be to call the Florida Board of Nursing to get a correct answer. Good luck!
