HI,
i'm from Montreal and I did my BscN and worked in orthopedics for 1 1/2 then moved on to emergency for the past 2 1/2 years. i'm about to start a northern nursing contract that i intent to do for a year (to pay off bills and save $$$) before going back to school. I really wanna go to med school but would be willing to do nurse practioner. And here lies my problem; I graduated from my bach with a 2.6 GPA and I am well aware I need a better GPA to do anything.
My question is: what program or courses do i need to take to boost up my GPA? Would I have to restart and complet a whole 4 year program plus MCATS to get a chance?

Do you have all the pre-req for Med school? Check out med schools your interested in and see what courses you need. Have you been volunteering? I know a friend of mine who has been accepted to med school. Her GPA was competitive plus she did a lot of volunteering. I'm sure your work experience count for something but I think they have to see that you're well rounded individual. Also, your personal statement has to be impeccable if anything else fails.

why spend so much time in med school when u could become a nurse practitioner? if you want to boost your grades and meet pre-req's, then consider getting a second degree or post grad diploma in something like kinesiology, biology or health sciences. I have been sick and my grades plummeted last semester in my health science degree and so i calculated it would be impossible to raise my gpa over 3.3 without going that route. Everyone I know in/applying to med school has a gpa over 3.5 and volunteer all the time.

Hmmm...the left corner of this page says "nurses talking about nursing." Sad. I do really love nursing and think it's a great profession, but I understand your desire for change. I'm actually in the same boat. I've emailed 8 Canadian med schools about this issue actually, as I did a BA b/f I did my BScN. My BA GPA was.....not good. Anyway, I have all the info about which school accepts cgpas & gpas & best 2-yr gpas etc., all pertinent to your situation. Plus, which schools recognize BScN sciences as pre-reqs. Again, since this is really a nursing site...just send me an email & I'll send you the details about the schools.
