1. 2 mg Morphine IVP now. You have 1mg/ml Morphine syringes. The drug book instructs you to dilute with 5 mLs of NS and infuse over 5 mins.

Give:____6_____mL at the rate of _____1.2_____mL/min or _____0.25_____ mL per 15 secs

When I do this problem I get 7 mL, 1.4, & 0.35. How is it that the answer is 6 mL and not 7 mL?

How did you work out the problem to come up with your answer? I got the correct answer, but I can't explain to you where you went wrong if I don't know what you did to get there. :)

ETA: I get 0.3mL per 15 seconds. But I do see where the got 6 mL and not 7.

FDW - The issue is coming up with a total volume of 7mls as opposed to 6mls. The morphine is supplied as 1 mg as 1 ml of solution. The order is for 2 mg of morphine = 2 mls of solution + mixed with 5 mls of NS = 7 mls to be pushed over the 5 mins.

The math of the OP is right on .. the issue is why the correct answer would be 6mls to be pushed instead of 7mls.

That being said -- I would have done the same as the OP.. so am interested as well why the answer would only be 6mls.

Thanks,

I read it as 1.2mg, not 2mg. 1.2 x 5 = 6mL. That's how I got 6ml. Did I get lucky by misreading? Lol
