Nursing Job interview case scenarios

Published

Hello all my nurslings!!!

I have a potential job interview for a multi pcu floor and an orthopedic pediatric floor. Does anyone have any suggestions on the potential case scenarios that I may be challeneged with? I'm a new grad and this will be my first potential job as a nurse and I really wish to ace the interview. Thank you for any feedback! :-)

I am assuming that the organization utilizes Behavioral Interviewing techniques since this is based on scenarios.

Since you are a new grad, no one will expect you to have a ready answer for any advanced clinical issues. They are more likely to ask you "tell us about a time when you . . . "

* Dealt with a serious interpersonal conflict

* Faced a moral/ethical dilemma

* Had to deal with conflicting priorities

You get the picture. The key is to take your time and be as authentic as possible. If you haven't had to deal with a particular situation, just tell them "I haven't yet had any experience in that" Avoid trying to 'weasel' out of something by responding with a generality... like "well, I feel/think/would"..... nope, they want an ACTUAL experience, where you did something, not how fast you can come up with a response that you think they want.

If you're nervous, 'own' it rather than trying to hide it.... a genuine "I'm so nervous" can win over even the most cynical interviewer.

Good Luck. Let us know how it went.
