Specialties Informatics
Published Apr 27, 2000
Hi,
I am interested in narrowing my nursing practice to the specialty of informatics. What is the best way to get started in this field? I understand some of the nursing programs in the U.S. offer graduate degrees in this area. Thanks for a response.

The best way to get started is to join your local Nursing Informatics organization.
Networking with other Nurse Informaticists will provide you with education and contacts related to the specialty. Additionally, you should volunteer to be involved in any clinical applications being
implemented at your current place of employment. Seeking an advance degree is good but you will need real world experience. Contact the ANA for information on scope of practice and certification in
this specialty. I have additional information about Nursing Informatics on my home page at: http://nurses.nu/homepages/Nurses/angela/
Let me know if I can help you locate your local Nursing Informatics organization.
