There are many attributes of a professional credentialing examination such as the ANCC Informatics Nurse Certification Exam.
- A professional role delineation or job analysis is conducted and periodically validated (ANCC Informatics role delineation was completed in 2010).
- The exam is linked to a defined body of knowledge.
- The reliability and validity of the exam is demonstrated by accepted standards.
- Credential maintenance or recertification is required. This encourages continue personal and professional growth while maintaining knowledge of current practices and best evidence.
- This is also a vehicle to differentiate professions. The ANCC certification recognizes you as some who has demonstrated expertise in your nursing specialty.
If you are interested in becoming board certified in Nursing Informatics by sitting for the ANCC Informatics Certification Exam, remember that the new exam should be released in May, 2012. The new test content outline will be available approximately 6 months prior to the new exam release date.
