Hello carm4502,
Nursing Informatics is defined by the American Nurses Association's Scope and Standards for Nursing Informatics Practice (2006) as a specialty that integrates nursing science, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, and knowledge in nursing practice. So "what a nurse practicioner would want from or need to know about NI when working in the field" would all depend on exactly what data, information and knowledge she/he wanted to obtain within the their specialty.
:welcome: In less than three weeks I will be atttending the NIA Nurse Leaders in Informatics workshops and conference preceding MedInfo 2007, the international Medical Informatics symposium held every four years. I have been asked at late notice to fill in for a facilitator who has withdrawn. So I get it right for the international audience can some of you please give me ideas on what a nurse practitioner would want from, do with and need to know about nursing informatics when working in the field? All comments appreciated.
