Nursing home?

Is it stressful to work in a Nursing home vs the hospital? Is there going to be a shortage of Nurses in Nursing home facilities?

 I have worked at a LTC facility for 5 yrs and it can be stressful, but it isnt as fast paced as my experience was in the hospital. Just depends on what you like to do. I want to go to the ED myself, i like fast paced.:smokin:

Never worked much in an acute setting. Mostly nursing homes. Yes it can be stressful. Im not sure how it compares to hospitals. Depending on how the facility is staffed and run... some places are easier than others. Working in LTC you have to rely on your assessments (not the Docs) and report to the MD, some other hats that you may have to wear beside nurse.... housekeeping (we dont have anyone p 3p), laundry, maintainance (I'm alway fixing something or restarting our generator), secretary, dealing with social service concerns, supervisor, dietary (constantly having to make snacks in the pms), patient escort..... the list can go on... I wouldn't trade it for the world tho... I love getting to know my residents and their family. Some days are worst than others. Mostly depends on staffing and size of unit/ facility... Do you have any specific concerns or questions we can help you with??
