Nursing in Group Home

Nurses General Nursing

Hello!

I am in need of advice. I accepted a job in a non-profit group home, for children ages 14 to 21, in February. The very small medical department was doing very poorly and has improved since I have been here.

I am currently trying to improve nursing notes and documentation. Does anyone have recommendation for how? I find I have been documenting in too many places and it is becoming redundant. The agency is protected via computers so I have the choice to do either word documentation or written progress note. Either way I am looking to improve the agent of documentation I use. Any advice?

Also I am new to the whole concept of nursing in a group home setting. If any one has any resources or advice for how to be a nurse in a group home I would appreciate it.

Hi. I would maybe ask the nurses in the DD Forum (or the Psych Forum?)

I know you probably want to cover all bases with your notes, but don't double document!

Best of luck. I worked in a group home for years before I became an RN, and it was very rewarding and taught me a lot.
