Greetings,
I'm looking for 2 yrs or more financing For ADN or BSN degree:
- 50 yrs old,
- 2 undergrad and 2 grad degrees (which makes me a softmore),
- living on a $10/hr job in depressed Central Florida Area (Bradenton),
and
- minority male student RN candidate.
After a year of biologies mainly, I can take a 2 year ADN 1 mile away, OR get a BSN 55 miles away in Tampa ALSO in 2 years (gas, living, time, tuition costs significantly more though).
FL, Fed, and/or Other Leads Gratefully Appreciated!
The BSN, although tempting may be out of reach. The ADN school is very nice though and I just signed up for Summer course today. Just thuoght I'd buzz the RN guru's. GRANTS could be an entire section in ALLNURSES.COM
Well, until I get my biologies, micro, and human development done in good standing for this year, I'm on my own. Just lucky I have an opportunity get help my 2 Nursing years. This is really an outstanding CC, so I'll be happy to go here and proud to have an ADN. Lots of scrambling in the meantime trying to get on the 'A' Team.

I feel your financial pain, especially with the economy as it is.
I haven't found too much, but after the first semester you can get a decent job as a nurse tech for experience and cash.

I tried to go down this route too...BE CAREFUL of "grant search" programs that charge for their services, they are usually scams. I tested one of them by putting in some "dummy" information, including an email account I set up for just for the test...I entered the information into the form but cancelled out of it without actually submitting it...next day, I had 15 spam emails in the dummy email account and I *KNOW* they got it from the grant search scam page.
Look for the ones that have ".gov" in their name, like "Govbenefits.gov", "GovLoans.gov" or "Grants.gov"....these are government sites and much more legitimate.
And of course, NEVER put your SSN or other personal info into sites that you don't trust...once you do, you open yourself up to all kinds of trouble.

Check with some one at a school.
They might be able to point you to a state agency that can help.
Here in Vermont, we have the VSAC, Vermont Student Assistance Corporation.
