Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

When choosing a career choice, psychologists often suggest picking something that matches good with your skills and values. An activity that I took pleasure in since I was a child was playing, "teacher." Children engage themselves in things that bring them happiness. I loved the idea of being a role model to my "students." Teamwork always stood out to me and I loved being a part of it. I had such a deep passion for helping others. Whenever I would get the chance to aide a "student" in an issue him or her were having, a rush of excitement would flow through my body. Not only did I love the idea of teaching others, but I enjoyed being the change in someone's day. This happiness as a child is what later evolves into the satisfaction adults feel in their career.

From the age of eight to fifteen, I helped care for my best friend who was ill. She was through about 120 surgeries at the time and she needed help with basic things. I would help her with school work, introducing her to others and getting her out of the house, and girly things like makeup and hair. I was also there for the rough times; the hospital visits and the long nights of tears. During this time is when I realized my natural abilities would lead to my true passion of working in the healthcare field. Caregiving was a way of life for me. I later narrowed it down to focusing on nursing. I watched the way my friend looked up to her nurses and how much they would influence her good days. She formed much closer bonds with them then she had with any other doctor. I watched how excited she would get when they would enter her room. I aspired to make impacts on others the way they impacted her. Not only did they impact just her, but entire family as well. The nurses went down the emotional path with everyone. They stood by her side no mater what. It was her shoulder to cry on and her call for help whenever it was needed. I cannot wait to someday spread my positivity through the patients rooms as they did for my friend. Nursing will not become a 9-5 job for me, it will be a lifelong duty- on and off of the job.

Nursing is an exquisite adventure and I'm ready to explore. I'm in search of watching miracles occur right in front of my eyes. Discovering new techniques is what I will push for. Every day is different in the medical field, and that is one of the aspects I am most excited for. I love the idea of being challenged everyday and learning more and more. The fast paced environment triggers my energy and gets my brain going. Nursing is one of the only professions that has an unlimited potential for growth which allows my passion to be endless.

Having a passion for helping others is a great quality to have as a nurse, but I am interested in so much more than just that. Science and math have been my favorite subjects and being able to put them both together in my future career intrigues me. Health science allows me to expand my mind and I live for that. It is a field that never stops uncovering more information and I can't wait to be a part of that. I will contribute everything my brain and feelings have to offer.

I am passionate about the challenges I will face in the future. One of the biggest challenges I think I will struggle with in this program is time management with clincals, classes, and life outside of school. It can be overwhelming, but I will push through until I get where I need to be. In order to overcome this I will not procrastinate, i will set the needed amount of time aside to study each night, and

Hello helper2018,

I can tell you will be a wonderful caring nurse. I am moved by everything you have said here. Nursing school will be challenging, but keep yourself organized and know that stress is only temporary.

As you move along in your career, you will meet many people that will benefit from your services/efforts. Some will be very appreciative, others not so much at the time... but know we do it for them and their loved ones.

Blessings!
