Hi there...I am a new instructor myself, so it may be a bit presumptuous of me to respond, (:nuke:) but my first thought was maybe to talk about the early recognition of sepsis. I don't know in which area you teach, but the (early) signs and symptoms of sepsis often mimic other disease processes, and can be inadvertantly missed by the med surg nurse (i.e., sepsis is often thought of an ICU diagnosis). Yet early recognition and intervention is the best way to prevent this inflammatory response from progressing to mortality.
