Nursing - Douglas College

Published

Hello,

I have been applying to many schools for nursing and haven't gotten an acceptance letter yet. I really want to go to Douglas as I have been a student there forever and love it! Sadly... I have been going through such a frustrating process trying to get in.. from having pre-reqs changed while I was completing them to now having to continuously apply with out any indication of when I will be accepted. I have been getting so many mixed msgs from the registrars office and from the advisors! Anyone else in the same boat? I have heard they have a wait list... and some students received an email indicating they were wait listed and will be rolled over... while many others received letters saying they must reapply for the next intake saying they DO NOT have a wait list and don't roll over any applicants. This is really frustrating to know. Anyone know how they decide this? Seems odd, as I applied as soon as the intakes opened each semester and have all my pre-reqs completed. Would love to hear from others!

From my understanding from people I know in the program and who have applied for multiple intakes that "waitlist" you have mentioned only included the top 50 people which is determined by GPA at that point.

Dillybar, when did you complete your pre-req's ?

Those accepted for Fall 2016 finished their pre-req's in Spring 2015 or earlier.

For Winter 2017 those accepted finished summer 2015 or earlier.

I imagine those accepted for Fall 2017 will be taken from applicants who finished in Fall 2015 or earlier.

If you finished your pre req's at the same time as some one else they take the higher GPA for that intake.

The wait list does not roll over but if you applied for fall 2016 and didn't get in and then re-applied for winter 2017 you generally have a pretty good chance at getting in given that you finished your pre req's before the other applicants applying for the new intake.

Hey Beexo,

I finished my pre-reqs in Fall 2015. I applied for Fall 2017... but I haven't heard back yet. From the information I gathered I learned that lots of students who completed in Summer 2015 and didn't get in for Winter 2017 applied for Fall 2017 and got seat offers first. Based on the first qualified. There are soo many nursing students! I hope I get a response soon. Thank you for the information!
