Nursing Clinicals

Hi all

I will be starting clinicals this September. I have two choices either Huntington Hospital in Pasadena or Glendale Adventist. Has anyone done clinicals at this places. I will like to know which hosptial offers the best clinical experience. Any advice....?

Thank you

What is your clinical rotation? Med-surg? OB? I had my OB rotation at Huntington. The nurses there were amazing. Some of my other classmates had their Fundamentals rotation there on an oncology floor and their experience wasn't great, more due to the instructor rather than the floor. Additionally, I am doing my preceptorship on a med-surg floor right now and will be starting my RN position on the same floor in a few weeks. My collegues there are amazing. Unfortunately, during my clinical rotations, we never had Glendale Adventist as an option. I did have my med-surg clinical rotation at Glendale Memorial and that was very good, too. I had an amazing clinical instructor. The commitment I made myself was to try a different hospital at every opportunity so I could get an idea of how nursing was performed in different hospitals. PM me if you want more info.

Oh, just noticed you are still new to the site. You would need 15 posts in order to PM. Let me know through the thread and I'll send you a PM.

Hi,

Thanks for replying to my question. I haven't started school yet; therefore, I don't know what kind of clinicals I will be doing. It will be my first time doing clinicals, that's why I wanted to know which hospital I would have a better clinical experience overall because I have to let my instructor know by the first day of class.

Any more advice would be greatly appreciated. Yeah I don't know what PM means.

Thank you

It is hard to say which hospital will give a better overall experience because there are different policies and people at each. All you can do is do your best and seek out the experience you want. Set a goal for what you want to accomplish each clinical day and let your nurse know what you wish to achieve. A good suggestion would be to try to get a patient with an issue in the body system you are studying in lecture that week. That way you can possibly match the theory with the clinical practice. Good luck.

Thanks for your advice, I will definitely take that into consideration
