Nursing Career Prep. Program/Nursing & Social Work Degrees

U.S.A. New York

Hello. I have a B.A. I am now applying to both an undergraduate nursing program and a master program in social work. I have the following questions:

1) The nursing program is offering a 60 hour Nursing Career Preparation Program. It includes review in the sciences, mathematics, reading comp. and study skills. It is targeted to LPN and RN prospective students. The cost is $400.00.

I need help in mathematics and to review the sciences, but I do not feel that I need help with reading comp or study skills. I am trying to figure out whether it would be helpful for me to take the course or a "waste of money" (I know that knowledge is never is wasteful, but I am refering to the practical and economic aspects of it).

Have anyone participated in this kind of program before? What was your experience? If you have not and but feel unprepared in math, do you wish you would have?

2) I would also like to know about the experiences of nurses who have combined the formal academic study of nursing and social work. I specified 'formal academic study' because for all practical purposes I view the work of nurses as the practice of social work.

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Questioner.....

Can't answer the 2nd part of your question but I took a class similar to what you mention, even though I found that I had excellent study/reading skills.....I found it very beneficial....but that is me and everyone is different. If you feel that youa re wasting your time, effort and money then I say don't take it if it is not required. My class was required for adult students so I took it.
