So, I have been a nurse for about 8 months in the ICU. I'm not loving it as much as I thought I would. My mind keeps going back to being a teacher. I have also had thoughts of becoming a midwife, however, I'm kind of just tired of the health care field. I have been in ti for 6 years as a paramedic. It's exhausting. I know so is teaching, but it's a different kind of exhausting.
Any advice? I'm really struggling with this decision... I could easily go back and get my master's in arts of teaching and teach whatever; just a hard decision.

Am really sorry that you're not happy.
People posting here always say to 'follow your heart'. But before you do anything drastic, have you considered a switch to L&D (brings you closer to maternity). General ICU prob doesn't provide you much maternity-type nsg.
I realize there are ways to combine nsg with the teaching aspect, but you'd really have to plot out how to approach that type of crossover (ie education & experience). But again, before you do anything dramatic, try to 'make sure you're sure' before doing another crossover. Like giving a switch to L&D some time to check out the new fit.
Your 8 months of ICU may not have given the correct time & type of nsg exposure that could help you feel that better fit.
Wishing you well.
