nursing caps

Nurses General Nursing

Just interested. Does anyone still wear their caps? I have been an LPN for 20 years. Initially we of course had to wear them, then it was personal choice. Now, obsolete. I still choose to wear mine. Before working the medical floor I am on now, I was told to remove it. I checked the dress codes and there was no stipulation re: caps. Since being on the medical floor one other nurse wears hers, she is an RN, and our clinical co-ordinator. I guess I should admit I wear white pantyhose too, and white uniforms.Quite a few nursing staff wear street clothes to work.Patients seem to really like the cap, though I do get teased from staff members. I guess at 42 yrs of age, I am still a rebel.Mind you, if I had a quarter for every compliment I received from wearing it from patients and family members, I could take a nice vacation. smile.gif

I second your thoughts RNinICU. I work in a private hospital and our uniform is very "corporate". We could be bank tellers! We have the choice of navy or olive pants/skirts and matching shirts, as well as a tailored jacket and vest if we want. I think we look very professional. I cant imagine walking around the wards in scrubs - it would feel like I was wearing my pyjamas to work. They are only worn in theatre. And as for wearing a cap... no thank you!!! Oh and there is definately NO white shoes!!!!

I think I am going to wear my cap on Nurses day (or is it Nurses Week?)....I'm doing it out of respect for the profession I entered 15 years ago. Practical? No, not in the unit where I work, but I earned the right to where that cap and from now on for one day a year I think I am going to wear it.

We wore our caps at graduation but it was very unpractical to wear in clinical setting.I do agree tho that alot has been lost thru the years as we give up caps, then whites.
