Since an early age I have had a heart for others ever since I was a little kid. I have always wanted to do good in the world and help others any way I could; Because of this, I have always known nursing was the perfect career for me. I reflect on the moment when I was a little girl going into surgery and coming out of surgery. The nurses were nice, compassionate, helpful, and caring. I remember being scared, wanting my mom, and feeling nauseous; however, the nurses comforted me and stayed by me. I remember how they helped me get through those feelings and I want to be able to do the same thing for someone else. That is why I chose the college of nursing at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. I believe this school will significantly educate and prepare me for my future in nursing, and I will contribute our student body with my experience, diversity, and leadership.

I have many different experiences that will assist me in this program. I serve as a waitress and worked as a CNA. Both of these jobs have enhanced my ability to work with others and the ability to provide to someone's specific needs. Additionally, I am a Sunday school teacher and part of a music team at my church. These opportunities have helped reveal the importance of being part of team and the impact that can be made by one single person. Not only do I volunteer at my church, I have had the opportunity to help with the disability program at my high school. It showed the importance of individuality. Not only have I assisted people in a school setting, I have helped in a traumatic situation. I witnessed a man getting hit by a car, I quickly called for help, made sure the man in the car was okay, then went straight to the man who got hit. I checked for a pulse and tried looking to see if the man who got hit was breathing. When more people came the emergency dispatcher told us to turn the man, I was the person to make sure his head had enough support because I knew that was a major importance or he could be injured more. That experience taught me the importance of timeliness and the leadership needed in traumatic experiences.

In addition, diversity is key for me. I am a twin. Living as a twin showed me to how to work with others and how to be able to compromise; furthermore, it showed me how to be able to stand up for who you are and the beliefs and values you have. I am a first generation college student as well. It is important for me and my parents that I get a higher degree.

Additionally, I am a strong, hardworking student. In high school I was a member of National Honors Society, Athletic Leadership Club, and I was in the top ten percent of my class. These positions were beneficial for me because it showed the importance of others and hard work. In National Honors Society we worked for the Salvation Army and the Athletic Leadership Club we would raise money and go shopping on behalf of families in need. To be in the top ten percent of my class is I had to work very hard so I do my best and work hard on any situation that comes my way. Furthermore, I was vice president of my class for three years and president for one year. Being vice president and president, I had to set up different events, fundraisers, and more all by myself; I learned to appoint people to activities as well. Being a part of all these different things helped me with leadership attributes.

Overall, I believe I am fit for the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire's Nursing program because I am independent, strong, personable, hardworking, knowledgeable woman that can be a leader. Being a nurse will be tough, but at the end of the day, I will be proud that I chose this path because of the opportunity to help others.
