Nursing Abroad in Southeast Asia

Hello everyone!

I'm currently in my last year of a BSN program in the greater Washington. As I enter my last year of nursing school, I've been pondering what it is I actually would like to do with my nursing degree once I've graduated. For the past 8 months, I heavily contemplated nursing abroad. My country of choice is Cambodia.

However, I am wondering whether or not this is a good idea. In looking to some of the medical programs in Cambodia, I see that there many reputable NGOs ask that nurses hold at least a year or two of medical experience. Would it be best to hold off on my dream of traveling to Cambodia to gather experience in the hospital setting?

Also, are there any nurses that have traveled abroad to countries like Cambodia or Vietnam and are willing to share their stories and advice? Programs they were involved in and the requirements to get started in this sort of stuff would also be very much appreciated.
