Success Stories?

Nurses Recovery

Published

Hey, ive been feeling really discouraged about this whole mess that i have been in lately. I could really use some success stories about getting into nursing school and getting your license after a run in with the cops. I want to hear about the stories with specs on a license and probation and, again, getting into the nursing school in the first place. I will be applying at UCOs program next fall with the hopes of my high academic achievement and TEAS test score offset the fact that I recently got a ticket for poss. of marijuana. Any advice for getting in as well?

Have you thought about posting in the student's section? Maybe an Admin will see this a know better how to get you the input you are seeking. Most of us here are already nurses and our problems began after. I would suggest consulting an attorney, just to be sure you are proceeding correctly. I have quite a few friends with misdemeanor Marijuana charges who have not been hampered with employment as a nurse, as long as it was for personal use and not distribution. But again, they were already nurses. You can't get weed in a healthcare setting. The biggest hurdle seems to be time. Many places don't hold youthful indiscretions against you, but they like to see some time pass between the offense and you. Find out about having the arrest/conviction expunged. It's not expensive and you can easily complete the application yourself. I will say though that a monitoring contract is not out of the realm of possibilities. I know a kid who received a DUI/DWI while in Nursing School, he graduated straight into a monitoring contract. He was still able to sit for NCLEX, work, etc... He just was monitored for his abuse of alcohol, poor judgment and subsequent arrest for DUI. Good luck! I think you'll meet some resistance while you are getting your legal stuff ironed out, but I believe you will eventually get in.

Thankyou, this helps!
