One Little Pill / Kudos

Nurses Recovery

Hi all:

Major shout-out to Drossi for recommending "One Little Pill" an documentary about using naltrexone to combat urges to drink. Finally an approach that involves medicine and neuroscience that has been clinically studied for effectiveness. Imagine an approach designed by doctors and scientists instead of some drunk guy hallucinating that had a "vision". I loved the approach of the people of the people utilizing The Sinclair Method. They took the "moral failing" BS out of the equation and treated it like a disease process instead of some mythical demon sent by the devil. Give it a watch if you can. Its free on Amazon and is only an hour.

Specializes in OR.

Between this doc and the SMART recovery material on the positive side and the negative side of material like "The Sober Truth" and "The Business of Recovery" why the H E double hockey sticks are we as a profession still sitting in with the Neanderthals on both the general view of addiction and how we treat our own???? No need to answer. It's a rhetorical question.

Cat I owe you Kudos also for "The Sober Truth". I'm still reading it but it is very enlightening. It amazes me that in a profession that is supposed to be tied to evidence based practice the monitoring boards are married to the 12 step model based in VoDoo. I used to think there had to be something better. I know there is now. However, the 12 step model is so ingrained in our society its like a weird religious cult that has now become the primary motivator in medical treatment. It's like putting the Pope in charge of deciding what cancer treatment is the best. Its crazy and there is no other way to describe it
