Nurses and drug abuse

I know that there is a string somewhere about this....But I thought I would start a new one. Hope you don't mind mods...

Anyhoo- A nurse at our hospital was recently fired for stealing drugs. That was after they tried to put him through rehab. He returned to the hospital in uniform with his badge and stole more drugs twice using someone elses password for the pyxis. On the second visit, someone recognized him and security chased him out of the hospital. Tackled him in the parking lot, got most of the drugs off of him. Took his badge. He managed to get away. Next thing I know, the newspaper reported that the night he ran from the hospital security, he checked himself into rehab again. He was arrested shortly after and now charged with 2 counts of felony drug trafficking.

Then I hear that another nurse at our hospital just got fired for the same thing, stealing narcs (specifically demerol and dilaudid). The person who told me this said that it's going on a lot more than I think.....

Is that true??? How sad. Walk a mile in their shoes....I'm trying to understand why someone would risk loosing their job, being arrested and loosing their license over this???? WHY?
