Nurses Are Advocates

Hello everyone! I want to begin this post by telling a little about myself. Of course, if you've ever read any of my posts on other things, you already know this information. I'm a very shy, introverted 20 year old LPN. My whole life has been a battle with being shy and introverted. And as you all surely know, it is seen as a weakness by many in the nursing field. It can be a weakness if it causes distress or harm to a patient. However, that's what this thread is about. In school, my instructors told me I needed to be more aggressive so I can advocate for my patients if need be. Which is completely understandable! But that brings me to my point. I am a shy, introverted, nerdy, book smart, disciplined, rather stay at home and read a book than go out and party 20 year old. And it is hard to go to nursing school and being shocked at how looked down upon my personality really is. But I would never and will never let anyone stop me from advocating for my patients!! When the tough gets going, so do I :) Ultimately, my goal is to become more outgoing so I can get along with future coworkers/bosses better. Being introverted seems to be misunderstood by most people. I don't want anything to hinder my future career! For more inspiration, I would love to hear stories about how you advocated for your patients. Even if everyone was against you or thought you were wrong. Nursing is a tough battle, so please leave stories when you fought hard. Thank you I appreciate any replies!!
