I'll be an RN very soon and am interested in travel nursing. I've done 3 years of MedSurg as an LPN and the last year in Rehab weekend/nights. Do I need to do a year of MedSurg as an RN before trying to be a travel RN? I don't want to get to a place and then look stupid because I don't know how to do a certain procedure.

Thanks!

Your nursing experience as a LPN will NOT count for traveling as a RN. You will need at least one year, and many places are wanting a travel nurse to have between 2 to 5 years experience before traveling. Travel nursing is a very tight competitve business, and the facilities are being extremely careful in who they interview and choose for an assignment these days.

I wish it was different, but please get at least one year RN expereince, complete BLS ACLS PALS NRP NALS and any other certifications in the specialty that you choose to work beofre traveling.
