Nurse with a stipulation on license - military nursing impossible??

Hi Supera..I do not have an answer to your question about military nursing but I wanted to congratulate you on being so close to finishing your stayed suspension program. Yes ..these black marks will always stay on our records..but I see many hiring managers as impressed by the fact that we have met face to face with our enemy of addiction and have managed to put our lives back together in spite of this chronic debilitating disease. I say go for it..the worse they can say as is "no" and we both have heard that before and survivied. Best wishes and congrats again. :heartbeat:nurse::heartbeat

Hey backtowork -

thanks for the support..much appreciated. we nurses gotta stick together! I have found being honest and upfront and telling my "story" has brought me the most success. It is quite a feat to go through the nursing board and make it through a monitoring program..not an easy or forgiving road..but I do see the light at the end of the tunnel. And yes, I've heard no many times before but did survive : ) Probably only made me stronger.

The military right now is tough for ANYONE to join. With the downsizing and drawdown they have raised the standards and gotten very selective.

If they tell you "NO", to starting out as Nurse with a direct commision, you could try to take the long way around and enlist. However even the enlisted ranks are full right now and there would be no guarantee of you getting to OCS.

Hello - I have my 4 year RN degree in nursing. I will have a completed 3 year term of a "stayed suspension and conditional" license in 6 months. I wanted to pursue military nursing when it is completed however it will still be on my record. Has anyone been able to get into a branch with a stipulation on their record, or is it even possible?? I would be looking into the nurse reserves. any info appreciated

The main issue will be "why" and what were you convicted of (if anything). Right now the military is not issuing waivers and they frown upon any type of convictions on your record. In fact if you have "careless driving ticket" you have to wait a year before they will even look at you for enlistment.

I wish you the very best. You should go speak with a recruiter and let them tell you what you can and can't do.
