nurse residency question

U.S.A. Texas

Just a question, does the nurse residency program only allow newly grads? I'm not familiar with this. I migrated here in the US 8 mos ago and still unlucky in finding an RN job. I have more than 2 yrs of experience in NICU in the Philppines. Thank you for your time!

My GN program stated that you had to have less than one year experience to be eligible. I do not know if this is standard. I do not imagine you'd be considered a new grad as you are experienced.

There is no standardization in new grad transition programs. You will need to check with the organization that is providing the residency for their specific requirements.

I emailed Cook Children's and they only allow new grads to apply. :( Thank you for your response!

Thank you for your reply! Apparently Baylor Health is accepting applications for nurses with experience, will just try my luck. Thank you again!

Depending on the facility, some residency programs accept experienced nurses who are moving from one specialty to another (i.e., med surg to ED or ICU, etc.). But if you have more than 1 year experience in NICU then you wouldn't be eligible for the residency/internship because you already have experience in that area and probably don't need the training that residency provides.

I emaile Cook Children's and they told me that I am not eligible because I am already experienced and their program is for newly grads or those with less than a year of experience, thank you for your time!
