Hi everyone!
I am a new grad from an accelerated BSN program. I have applied to several nurse residency programs and am so excited that I have 2 interviews coming up!. I know these programs are really competitive and want to be prepared for my interviews!
I was wondering if anyone who has interviewed for any new grad residencies (or nursing jobs in general) could share any tough interview questions they had!
One of the residencies is at a childrens hospital, so if anyone has any peds specific questions they have been asked i would greatly appreciate it!!
I have heard they ask a lot of behavioral questions and scenario question if anyone has examples like that!!
THANKS!

Hey! I interviewed for a pediatric-centered residency and a LOT of my behavioral questions were related to that. Some that I can remember were:
Tell me about a time when a parent hindered your ability to give care and how you handled it?
Then conversely, tell me about a time when working with a parent made you a better nurse and how?
Children in hospitals are very different from healthy children, how do you handle a child who may be nonverbal, vented, sedated, etc.?
Tell me about a time when you had to be flexible in regards to a child and their family unit?
I can't remember a ton of questions but those were the ones that stuck out to me. I would say have a ton of scenarios from clinicals or tech work in your head. I also did my senior preceptorship in a pediatric setting so I had even more scenarios to pick from. Don't freak out if you can't think of one right away, give yourself time to think or ask if you can come back to that question. Honestly, they just want to know why you're passionate about this particular population.
I hope that helps and good luck!
