Nurse in recovery and the ADA

Published

Hey good morning,

First time posting, hope i get this right. If addiction is an illness and a disability, why can't a nurse in recovery who can't find employment, when she is qualified, file a complaint with the EEOC? Isn't this possible under the ADA? Aren't hospitals required by law to make certain accomodations for her? Isn't IPN or another recovery program seen as an accomodation?

I see all these nurses who seem to work a good program and value their sobriety unable to find a job...

don't they have to hire nurses in recovery?

thanks:heartbeat

Look for information usually found in your state capital government complexes, or you may be able to Google

"Disability Rights Center" which is staffed by attorneys at no cost to you who are there to assist you in getting back to work. I was assulted by a make paramedic on a night flight. I have to get the EEOC to opine if I had a case or not, which I did. I think you have to realise there are more self-rightous heartless human beings who happebn to be nurses than there are those with a heart and compassion. I should know I have had to go befoe 4 BON just to get endorsed. But oh well, just roll with it. You might give your state nurses association a call, they seem to have the current poop (no pun intented). Good Luck! Let us hear what happens, if you wish).
