Nurse for the Railroad

Published

Does anyone on here have any experience with being a railroad nurse, or know anyone that does? My husband works for the railroad, and i know that there is only one nurse for a large area. All i know is she travels between certain districts taking B/P, doing hearing tests, fitting respirators, etc. And, she also does over the phone care when needed (I know she does more, just not quite sure what else). I'm just curious to hear what anyone know about this position, and if it's a good one or not. Thank you for any input!

I can let you know in a few months, I will be starting with them soon. The railroad nurses are Occupational Health Nurses. In addition to what you listed, they also provide flu shots, respond to on the job injuries, assist in health related paperwork, answer health related questions & promote healthy living. I am told it is a rewarding position. This is all I have at this time. Hope it helps

Thank you..this does help! What state and what railroad (if you don't mind me asking)? And how long have you been a nurse? I'm really considering looking into this. Thank you again :)

I am currently in the process of hiring for a railroad. I'm not quiet sure what all is involved, but they look for nurses that are strong clinically and prefer acute ER/ICU experiences. My assumption on that is there's a sense of autonomy that has to be used in this position. I'm quite excited at the prospect. I've heard the money is great, and benefits are awesome!
