Nurse to Pt Ratios In TC Facilities

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I work in a Transitional Rehab which is supposed to be pt's who are needing rehab from knee, shoulders and hip surgeries so they can work with PT & Ot to gain strength and to be independent at home. Yet, they have remodeled the facility and since then we are getting highly acute pt's! It's become more of a step-down ICU and med-surg facility. There is one nurse to 20 pt's and out of the 20 are 10 highly acute! My fellow coworkers are completely burnt out and don't know what to do! Is there a way we can make this change? We have complained to Mngt yet nothing happens. They tell us if we can't handle it then find another job! This is unsafe for pt's and us as nurses! Please help!

That sounds horrible. At the LTC/Rehab facility I go to we have one nurse to 30 patients. I already hate the ratio so I couldn't imagine half being acute. Needless to say, it seems like it is time to find another job especially when they clearly don't care or support you....
