Anyone in a rural setting where you share ED/Hospital Inpatient call with other NP/PA/MD/DOs? Would you please disclose your pay for this call and how much it entails/how busy you/your hospital/ED is? I think mine sucks.Mine is 1:4 or at least 92 days per year, 24 hour call covering a small rural hospital with average of 3-5 ED visits/24 hrs and usually 1-3 inpatients. This comes with dictation of H&P, DC summary, rounds, and all the other goodies as well as nursing home calls, and then there's the 3am ED calls. For all this I get an extra $20K. Does this seem fair to you? This pay is $9.05/hr at 92 days/year, which is usually a low estimate. If they have to call in outside help for PA/NP coverage it's at least $50/hr. I'm really getting frustrated over this. And the docs I work with do less, see less, and make FOUR TIMES what I do. GRRRRRRRRR
Call pay is considered overtime pay for us at our hospital. That's $60.00/hr for both PA or NP.

I don't share call with other APNs, cgfnp. I'm sole APN.
At this last clinic, during the day, I would take care of the ED or pts. on the floor, but no difference in pay. This was included in my salary.
But, ED call after hours, I'm paid $100/hr. just like the physicians with whom I share call.

I knew you were fairly treated. I guess I'll just have to move to AR...
I am enjoying my job very much, but nothing is worth getting taken advantage of. We'll see how it goes... I will be meeting with admin soon. I'll keep you posted.
Let's just say, sometimes I do feel like I am being taken advantage of as well. Maybe not in terms of the on-call pay rate but in other areas. I'm with you, it would have been easy to just say it's not worth it but I do enjoy what I do.
