nurse for plastic surgeon...guidance please!!!

Published

hi...i am new here!! ;)

i will be applying for nursing school (rn) for january 2007. i have been a permanent makeup artist for 2 1/2 years now (www.theleopardlily.com). while doing this job, i have become extremely interested in and fascinated with the art cosmetic surgery.

does anyone work for a plastic surgeon? if so, how much education was required (how many years, which degree?), and what does your job entail? i would love to assist surgeries if possible...or work in an outpatient center. i am also great with computers and have excellent customer service skills. i'm just clueless as to what kind of jobs are available for nurses in this field. is the pay good? (for anyone who would like to share this info...i would greatly appreciate it!!) and, what days/hours do you work?

thanks in advance to everyone who replies!!

Best wishes on nursing school! In addition to being an RN, I am also

a licensed aesthetician. I interviewed with 3 different plastic surgeons

a few years ago. By that time I had also taken a certificate course

in medical esthetics.

Sorry to say I was very disappointed. The focus in all 3 offices

was-how much money can you bring in. One came close to implying

to push add on services that the client may not need but would make

a package. When I asked the RN in one office if she had checked

to see if her laser practice was within state nursing practice, and

questioned about extra insurance coverage I was given a cold shoulder

and no answer. Most of the offices paid a little more than what

a medical assistant would be paid.

Not trying to discourage you, just really do a lot of research by

talking with nurses already in the field in your area.

Every area is different and I know a nurse who had a thriving

practice in the West.

Feel free to send me a pm if you are interested in the Medical

Esthetics course-I believe the instructor travels nationally.

The course was excellent!

Best wishes,
