Nurse to Patient ratios, your thoughts

Published

Hi, I have been offered a job on a tele floor with a ratio of 1:8 nights. I am a new grad and would like to here from experienced nurses about what they think of this ratio. Is this a dangerous ratio? As an experienced nurse would you work with a ratio like this? What do you think for a new grad? Please any advice and details would greatly be appreciated!

nursing homes are 30:1. are new governor rolled back the ratios in his first week.

It all depends on the acuity of the patients. There is no way ANY nurse, regardless if she is "the bomb" lol could safely take care of more than 3-4 patients at a time. We are lobbying for 3:1. My floor is way too busy, the patients way to complicated, and sick for any more than that.

What hospital are you working at as a new grad?
