How many nurses or family members of loved ones are comfortable with the current laws governing the nurse to patient ratios. Especially in long term care facilities?

Any thoughts or ideas are very appreciated. This is for a research paper and I would appreciate your approval to use your comments in it.

I work in the VA system.

While using acuity numbers, there are also set minimum staffing numbers. This is for both acoute and long term care.

The private community hospital has lost several nurses to us as they were wanting nurses to care for larger numbers of clients. (Eg: ICU 1:4 pts afterhrs) and the Med Surg floor had a dismal 41% satisfaction rate in March...

That same private hospital actually can pull up how long it takes a nurse to answer a calllight via their computer system....They couldn't understand why one elderly client easn't continent after a colectomy...until her daughter complained and they discovered it took 45 MINUTES one night to answer the calllight!!
