I work in Texas at a hospital of I think 140 bed hospital. On the med/surg floor the nurses are expected to take care of at the most about 8 pt's a piece. This is where I see pt's suffer the most. The nurse has to do the assessment and plus during this time take care of the other 7 pt's that are recovering from surgery.
To me and to most nurses this is just not safe for the other pt's and or the new one admitted to the floor.
How do you all feel about this?

hello im an lvn that works in a nursing home in texas. and i am curious if anyone knows if there are any laws about maximum patient/nurse ratio for different facilities.i love what i do but i feel soooo bad as i cant give the patients the attention and proper care they need as there are soo many of them that u are in charge of half the time im lucky to look at a patient long enough to make sure they are still breathing every 2 hours.but in nursing home i am in charge of around 60 pts and i feel that is too much for one nurse to be caring for because what if 2 or 3 pts code at same time? then my license is on the line if something bad happens. id appreciate anyinput thanks
