I also love thunderstorms,I grew up in Ok.and witnessed many,many tornados.The one that hit Moore,Del City and Tinker airforce Base in May of 1999 was a F5.I do think it was the worst devastation I had ever seen.My twin sister had lost her house to fire in 97 and the tornado in 99. I have seen her have to start over 2 times in 4 years. My neice has had to replace all her posessions 2 times. I remember cleaning out her pool and there was so much stuff you could not believe,but when you pull out dead animals that is enough to change your mind. I still love the lightning, and thunder storms,but I do not mess with tornado warnings.I know how lucky our family was not to lose anyone,but some did.

Speaking of gangrene, I had been a housewife for 11 years, straight from highschool.We moved to Texas I was so bored. I decided to volunteer at the hospital and was the youngest Pink lady ever.They saw my energy and surgery hired me right away. I was the anesthesia clerk who made sure the proper testing was done and the pt.was clear for surgery. I was excited that they also wanted to pay me to learn to do the EKG's. My very 1st pt' to do an EKG on by myself was a 100 year old deaf/mute women. She was going to have both feet amputated and I took her wheelchair and all into the smallest room.Well I did not understand the 1st thing about gangrene but she had a pillow case around both her lower legs and it was seeping and stunk so freaking bad I gagged. She had no idea what I was doing to her,none someone was just lifting up her shirt and she was fighting me.They smell was all it took and I left the room,went and got the nurse and told her she could do it herself.The wound left the smell and icky on the wheelchair feet rest. I did volunteer to clean it up..But,I went to my boss because here I was thinking all EKG's were going to be like that...I was not going to be the one to do them. I have never ever forgot that smell..It is the one smell that has stuck with me all these years.

Ok,I must speak up for the poor receptionist.....I understood as a receptionist that pt.was the reason I had my job and I had my share of upset pt's I did not take it personally.That comes with the job. I worked for a very busy opthamologist who saw approx. 50 + pt's a day. As the only Receptionist in the office everyday I made sure they new there were other options. Really,the Dr. himself let us know who was on call and if they were having a very severe problem I called and made the appointment myself. There is a big difference from a eye to a heart I understand, but when you are the Pt. and it is your eyesite you are in jeapordy of loosing,it might as well be your heart. That Dr.should have had other arrangements for her pt's.Even after the 1st time you should of seen her partner or another Dr.on call. She was neglectful after the 1st time. I agree with the idea she can not look you in the eye.Something is very wrong... Follow up! Lucky..

I am steaming mad also that you were put off time and time again.That is where I always say 1st and 2nd time maybe but there never ever should have been a 3rd time. She certainly is not focused on her job as a physician,or to her practice as a cardiologist.. I think you even staying with the same group is a mighty big step.I know one Dr.does not make all Cardiologist bad. She could have offered to get him in with her partner which is what most other caring Physicians would have done. Really, most would have stayed late or come in early or squeezed him in for his very important office visit. But,I would do what you think you should.I bet she has more than one complaint already on her file! I hope he is doing well considering.. Good Luck, Lucky STEAMING mad! :angryfire :angryfire

Sorry,:imbar I didn't know it would be such a long response...I will try to keep them shorter... ....

I am a Unit Clerk on the med/surg floor and there was a man that was in for a procedure.I saw him the night before his surgery as he was having problems changing the channel.Tthe CNA was busy as was the nurse so I love to help out anyway I can.I went and showed him how to change the channel. The next night at wrk I saw him and OMG he looked like a different pt.He had surgery to remove a tumor in his head somewhere.It made me so sad to see him looking like another person he looked so bad.He woke up and ask for something. I wanted to go see him and he was fineat that time.He had a morphine pump, and they do forget they have one.I Went back to my desk and he called again sounding so bad. Well,there are some nurses that hate to get off their butts to see what the pt's need.The pt's seem to be nothing but a bother to them. I went because I felt something was up.He was holding his head and in such pain,he said"if I had a shotgun I would blow my head off" and a tear started rolling down his face,needless to say it did mine too. I held his hand and called the nurse myself....The nurse came in and was being all nasty she was sighing until she saw me.Then she changed her tune and was acting nice for my sake. She reminded him he had a pump.She left and I waited for the MS to kick in. He pulled me close to him and whispered"you must be an angel sent from above"he would not let go of my hand. He was squeezing my hand so hard I had told him,"go ahead and let me have some of your pain",anything to help him. He thanked me so much when it was really the morphine. But, you can bet I made many trips down his way to "remind" :uhoh21: him to push his button...It really tore me up to hear him say he would blow his head off...Well, as long as he was there I went into see him. So,needless to say it makes my job as well as the nurses and Cna's that are told by the pt's that they are valued for what they do !! I have two. The first is from a patient that had ARDS and was on the vent for 3 weeks . She then came to the Rehab unit where I work, and has been there for 2 months. Trache is out , she is walking 75 feet, and told me "See, I told you I would walk out of here!!!!" That is what it is all about!!!! The second one is from a patient who fell 2 stories onto concrete. He is lucky to be alive. He suffered severe multiple trauma. After getting well enough to do rehab, he has been on my rehab unit for 3 weeks. Today he said " Thank you for pushing me so hard. I thought at first that you were being a b...h, but now I know it was all because you care. You are God's angel!!!" Talk about teary eyed!!!

I work in Texas at a hospital of I think 140 bed hospital.On the med/surg floor the nurses are expected to take care of at the most about 8 pt's a piece. This is where I see pt's suffer the most.The nurse has to do the assessment and plus during this time take care of the other 7 pt's that are recovering from surgery. To me and to most nurses this is just not safe for the other pt's and or the new one admitted to the floor. How do you all feel about this?
