I have been unsuccessful in two floor orientations ( bad fit preceptors in my opinion) which has left me to think floor nursing is not for me. I am looking for other alternatives to standard floor nursing for newly credentailed nurses.
Nursing is a second career for me - prior experience in business operations management in finance and sales.
I found a training job post for medical software firm which might be a good fit for me. I also looked at massage which interests me- but would require more schooling ( not now again please) I need to start working after finishing the accel BSN program . Any suggestions for jobs not on the floor for new grads would be appreciated.
Hi jjjoy,
I am so glad to have come across your posting.
Right now I am a new grad and working at a skilled nursing facility with 16+ patients. Everyday is an uphill battle and I feel I am drowning.
I stay late every night, now making my days 14.5+ hours a day, thus I do not see my family much at all when I am working. But it is good money and we need the money.
Do you know of other options in nursing that are not floor / clinical nursing positions? I would love to hear your story in more detail.
I am new here and do not know how to message. Would it be possible to email you sometime? I could give you my email address if that is okay.
I just do not know where or who to turn to. My orientation is piecemeal and we have no training manual, which makes the paper charting very difficult and time consuming.
Thank you so much,
Lori

Hi NuBee2,
I am so sorry to hear about your experience, but glad to hear that I am not the only one...hope that makes sense. Right now I am at a skilled nursing facility with 16+ patients and tons of paperwork. Rather than 12.5 hour days, my days are 14.5 + hours because I have to play catch up.
I am new here and do not know how to message anyone. Would it be okay for me to ask you some questions? If possible, I can give you my email address.
Thank you so much and I hope things have turned around for you.
Lori
