Hello all,
I am a nursing student entering my final year this September at a Canadian university, after I graudate I plan on working for a couple of years and then applying to graduate school to do an NP program. I hope to eventually end up working/living in the US and I was wondering if anyone had any information regarding Canadian educated NP's working in the US.
I am wondering if it is really worth it for me to apply to schools in the US because it is harder for international students to get in, it is more expensive (tuition and taking the GRE), overall it would obviously be easier for me to go to a Canadian university but I am wondering if this would put me at a disadvantage and is it really worth it for me to go through the whole process of applying the schools is the US.
I would appreciate any advice! Thanks:)

I looked into doing a grad program in Canada (vancouver) and looked at the process about coming back to the USA to work. And I think it's sort of like what americans do for med school- if you don't get in here you can go to a europen or carribean school and come back to the USA and work. Though, you need to pass the nurse practitioner american exam, just like nurses take the NCLEX. So I think you could do schooling in canada and just take the american based nurse practitioner exam plus a few nitty gritty visas and be fit to work over here. Is it easier to get into school in canada? And there are a lot of schools that you don't need to take the GREs- even some of the really good ones (duke, hopkins, university of michigan, uni of ill-chicago, university of washington, and a bunch more)....
hopefully this helps a little....

I don't really know how easy it would be for an American resident but I am a Canadian resident so it would be much easier for me to get into a school here than it would be to get into an American school. I would think it would be easier if you were an American citizen to get into a school there because there are SO many more schools that offer NP programs than in Canada.
Thanks for your help! I actually didn't even know there were schools that did require the GRE to get in, so I will definietly look into those!
Also, another thing about Canadian schools is that for ALL of them your have to have at least 2 years of RN experiecne before applying no exceptions.
