Hi, I am looking to return back to college for a second degree or advanced degree in the healthcare field. I just started on the job training to work as a Anesthesia Tech. at the hospital. It has been interesting so far. You are on your feet constantly. I have been situated in one or two areas until I start to become comfortable. You deliver different equipment and drugs during operations. Other than that as stocking drugs, ensuring equipment is in place, chainging tubes, and suction after the operation. Then once rooms are cleared ensure everything is set for the next day or emergency operations. There is a lot more to do, but it is a start.
I was hoping for more patient contact, but I have my volunteer experience in EMS. If I finally recieve my EMT B cert. Was thinking of taking an Advanced EMT class, ACLS Class, and a PALS class.
Two questions: I am looking into nursing as the way to go for as possibly second bachelors degree. However, want to take a few math and writing courses before I go that direction. Will knowledge from anesthesia tech., ACLS, PALS, doing lines, and tubes be useful knowledge to apply towards nursing?
Second indirectly related to nursing. Any other jobs within the OR that might help transitioning into a nursing career?
Appreciate the advice or directing me into the right forum.
Have a good one.
