Not So Sure My Interviews Have Been 'REAL'...

Here's the situation:

I went on my first interview on Monday for a job that I had been posted in the classified section. When I originally responded to the ad, the admin told me the position required one years experience. I responded anyway because I had a clinical that was very similar to the job requirement.

Two weeks went by so I figured it was a no go. Then, I got the call for an interview. But, when I got to the interview, the receptionist handed me a 'job description' to look over, saying, "They want you to read the job requirements before the interview."

Right there, on the front page, it said, "The state requires at least an ADN degree and minimum of TWO YEARS experience."

The interview turned out to be a panel interview with three people! No one brought up my lack of qualification. They asked the usual formal questions.

And I have not heard back since. My husband suggested that they may have been required to interview a minimum number of candidates, even if they already knew who they wanted.

My second experience was this: I had a very akward phone conversation from an admin at a facility I had put an application into awhile back. I had already written them off it had been months. So, when they called to set up the interview, I was caught off guard and the admin questioned me about whether or not I was actually interested in the interview to which I proclaimed my excitement about (sincerely).

But, when I went in for the interview, she was 'unavailable' and someone else who knew nothing about me or my paperwork took me aside and spoke with me, but didn't really interview me. I hit it off with this person and would sincerely like the job. I'm just not sure if I was put off with someone else because of the awkward phone contact we had had or if unforseen circumstances made her truly unavailable that day. Is it really that easy to lose a job prospect, just from lack of phone chemistry and misunderstanding?

Or, have I been knocking myself out and running all over town chasing phantoms???
