Not my problem!

Occasionally my office is used for deescalation but not for discipline. On the other hand my clinic restroom is used for those who can't be trusted in the student restrooms and by those in ISS, which really gets under my skin but I can't do anything about it. Our building was built as a middle school so there are no restrooms in the classrooms. The students restrooms offer a great environment for mischief for elementary kids.

And middle school kids as well. They destroy that area.

Plus, I have the pooping toilet. I'm getting a copy of "Everyone Poops" and putting it next the toilet next year (and I'm only half kidding about that...).

My office has been used for deescalation, but only as a last resort and only really if an injury is involved. In that case, the Dean is in my office handling the discipline part. I have awesome Deans.

More often my office is overflow quiet space for a student who needs an emotional time out to regroup.

Not too often. If a student couldn't be in the classroom due to something they did, they would be with the principal,counselor, ect being talked to. My office is small and pretty inconvenient for any kind of discipline/detention. I did have a teacher last year from across the hall from me come a drop a student off and said "he just needs to sit in here awhile" and promptly left. He told me later that he (teacher) was just about to lose it with this boy and needed to get away. I had no problem with that - only time its happened and I'm glad he knew his breaking point.

I thought it was only my littles that had frequent bathroom injuries!

As a newbie, I just can't grasp why climbing the doors or putting your fingers next to wear the door closes is so tempting to these little ones!

I have a small room that teachers use for pumping that is also used to deesclate situations, but they are never in their for more than 10 mins before a counselor comes for them

We have a handful of kids who eat lunch in an enclosed classroom or the library. On the days when there's no teacher and library is closed I've started saying no, this is not an appropriate place for lunch (because...ew, germs...)

Mostly I get left alone, though. That's ridiculous. Was there a fidget spinning finger injury?

Nope. Send him back. If the teacher can't deal, then it's a trip to the Principal.

I have a deescalation room that the kids that have to use it on call the "white room" - they don't like it in there. My bathroom is also used for those that can't be trusted in the regular bathroom - bothers me a bit too but as long as the kids leave it clean I can deal with it.

I'd send that kid over to the principal. Def not my problem.

Not my circus, not my monkeys. I've never been sent a kiddo for discipline. That's not why I'm here. Plus, my office is waaaaaaay too small for any of that mess. Me and 1 student I'm assessing barely fit. You can believe I'm not about to add a discipline kiddo in here too. FERPA and HIPPA would both go out the window (if I had one )

I love it when the teacher tells me kiddo is not doing their work, and they are sending them to me. HUH? Sounds like a discipline problem if they dont want to do their work, not a NURSING issue. Of course kiddo is going to say they will go to the nurse VS the principle. This morning had a girl with family problems, and of course Admin calls me. What is my role here? She was crying and upset but I am not the psychologist, CALL HIM please. 3 MORE WEEKS until summer freedom.

I thought I was the only one with this issue.

I get the offensive poopers all day long - the ones who get in trouble in the gang restrooms and have to go solo. Sounds like a bonus to me - I have a bathroom door. Some of ours have no stall doors, but have long stalls for privacy. I always get the ISS bathroom breaks too. Not usually an issue. I did have to mop a half inch of standing pee out of my bathroom one day though. Dang boys. At least the teachers and I have a good relationship and we worked together on that issue.

I sometimes get the calm down time. It is limited to 5-10 minutes. I'll talk to the student and see what's up. I rarely get the behavior or acting out sort of calm down time, that is limited to a few select students. Normally it is a discipline issue and is outside of my office doors thank goodness.
