Not my problem!

Student got hit in the mouth by another student's fidget spinner. So she sends both students to my office. Obviously I get sending the one child of course but why do I have to see the other child who did this?! The student stated that he can't be in class right now because of what he did. I sent him back immediately. Teachers don't discipline anymore? I'm confused. I think I may be way too nice and accommodating. This has been happening a lot this year. The nurse's office should not be a time out room. Does this happen to anyone else??

    I don't mind the occasional, "can so and so sit in here for a few minutes to calm down." There is a little first grader on the autism spectrum and he will come in from time to time to calm down and I will help him with his school work for a few mintues. I enjoy working with him, such a sweet kiddo. But I am not going to discipline something that happened in another teacher's classroom. And honestly, she probably didn't need to send the student who got hurt either because there was nothing wrong with him! I still gave out that infamous ice pack though!

    We have a handful of kids who eat lunch in an enclosed classroom or the library. On the days when there's no teacher and library is closed I've started saying no, this is not an appropriate place for lunch (because...ew, germs...)

    Mostly I get left alone, though. That's ridiculous. Was there a fidget spinning finger injury?

    Lol, no! The student chucked it at the other student's face. No swelling, no redness. Just a sad kiddo. Now I regret buying my two oldest these silly things!! I think they got bored of them or lost them. Haven't seen them play with it in awhile.

    The problem with this is that we are exposing a healthy child to germs in the nurses office unnecessarily. A contagious kid could walk in at any time.

    I mentioned this yesterday, but as of today, our school has gone into full day care status. The fidget spinners have been banned from the cafeteria only as of today. As I walked the hall yesterday 2 kids were sitting on the floor playing dueling fidget spinner; they'd get them spinning and crash them into each other. Our Intermediate school has banned them totally without a doctor's order:headphone:

    I love it when the teacher tells me kiddo is not doing their work, and they are sending them to me. HUH? Sounds like a discipline problem if they dont want to do their work, not a NURSING issue.
    I don't know... they could have a disturbed energy field ;-)

    A simple apology between the two should suffice. Weird how the teacher made a big out of this by sending them to any office at all. This is a silly matter.

    My clinic is connected to our front office with the 2 assistant principles right next to me pretty much. I take care of the medical part and promptly hand the kids over to the A.P. to deal with behavior/discipline concerns.
