I applied to cgfns and submit all the required documents including nursing council but I am not happy with the way the process. Because a lot of money I paid for these. They need validity of the licence of which is not stated from the beginning

The CGFNS (Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools) helps assess the qualifications of international nurses seeking to work in the United States. They are supposed to make it easier for foreign-trained nurses to meet the licensure requirements for nursing practice in the U.S.

The requirement for license validity is often overlooked when initially applying, and it's certainly disappointing when additional steps are added without clear communication upfront.

If you haven't already, here are a few steps you can take to address the situation:

  • Contact CGFNS directly. Reach out to their customer service to express your concerns. You can contact them online through your account or call 1(215)222-8454. Ask for a detailed explanation of the license validity requirement and whether it's a new or recent policy change. You may also want to ask if there's any way to expedite the process or avoid extra charges.
  • Document everything. Keep a record of all your communications with CGFNS, including emails and phone conversations. "What is your name, please?" Make them repeat or spell their name until you get it. This documentation helps if you decide to escalate the issue, and it always helps in subsequent conversations: "I spoke with (so-and-so) on (date such-and-such)."
  • Request a refund or reduction. If you feel the fees were not clearly outlined and this has resulted in unnecessary additional costs, it may be worth requesting a refund or a reduction in fees for services that were not disclosed in the initial instructions. You never know until you ask.
  • Clarify license validity. If they require your nursing license to be validated in a specific way (e.g., actively registered or not expired), you could inquire if there's an alternative solution, such as submitting a letter of good standing or proof of licensure history from your original licensing authority.
