hi all!
im a sophomore pre-nursing student at florida international university with a 3.36 gpa; 3.5 nursing program gpa. i haven't taken chemistry, human physiology ii, and a couple other courses. i want to apply to usf, ucf, fiu, and most of all fsu (florida state university). im not feeling very confident about applying because i'm still without a couple courses (which will be completed before the summer 2012 is over) and i know when i pass the courses, it will increase my gpa. fall of 2012 is when i want to enroll in the nursing program and the date to start applying for the schools i want to go to is december 1st. i was wondering if i should wait to apply to the nursing programs until i'm finished with all my pre-reqs or is this the process that all pre-nursing students go through when applying (being without a couple pre-reqs & gpa not at desired level)?
i plan on speaking to my advisor but i would still like to hear from actual students.
sn: i will be taking all online courses next semester (com 3461, statistics, retaking nutrition (c-), nur 3119), so i'm going to take microbio lab, chemistry and human & physiology ii in the summer (on campus). i'm currently enrolled in microbiology, human development dep200, a math course, and arts course (microbio lab was too full).
i'm not sure what to do because i don't feel confident about my gpa. many other students have 3.7 and up, and i've read there are students not getting in with 4.0 gpa's.
if i don't have any other options of schools i'll apply to those where teas and hesi2 is required but i would really like to apply to schools that don't require these exams. (i'm not a fan of exams; act score: 21. sat: 750)
please please any advice. i'm not too proud to beg lol

I would apply. In completing your application for admissions, disclose to the school the courses you plan to take and anticipated completion dates. If the courses are not required for entrance, they will overlook them. If they are required for entrance, the schools may accept your application conditionally pending completion of the courses.
Look, every year is a different applicant pool with varying backgrounds. Don’t believe all of the hype about needing a 4.0 to get into nursing school. Not a single classmate in my cohort had a 4.0 and it was an accelerated BSN program. Here in Indianapolis, one only needs four courses before applying to the nursing program. Of course a 4.0 is needed. Most other courses require more than 12 credit hours before applying. This increases the chances of someone earning a B+ in a course. You never know until you apply.
Also, research what the statistics are for entering classes. Generally you can find that information on the school’s website. If not, call the school of nursing and ask. Once you have the averages, you will be able to better gage where you stand.
JUST DO IT!

DO IIIITTTTTT:lol2: no harm in trying!remember, nursing isn't just about GPA.
goodluck!
Thanks you guys!!
I really appreciate the comments.
& thanks for the luck
I'm going to apply. Like you said it won't hurt!
*crossing my fingers*
and just another question, what the difference with the traditional BSN & the accelerated BSN?
i think that a regular BSN typically takes more than 4 yrs to complete(prereqs plus the actual nursing school)
on the other hand, accelerated BSN means that you could finish in just a few months or up to a year.(how cool is that?) lol
double check though:p

look into interning/volunteering at hospitals or clinics nearby. schools like to see that you have clinical experience. it also shows you are serious about your career. good luck!

Look into private schools to apply to if you have that choice. (Some hospitals will pay for your education while you work for them). My GPA was lower than that and I got in!!
