Hello: I have a BSN and have worked in critical care (CIC, NICU, and Med-surg, Tele units), but have taken some time off after having children. I would like to join the Army Nurse Corps, but do not have recent critical care experience. How will they treat me? It has been a while since I have practiced, but I do have an active license. Thank you all.

Regardless of past experience you just need to complete / be eligible for basic admission requirements.. physical, age, security clearance... time of exp can be used if you want to apply and gain entry into ICU realm and might even provide option for going in at a higher rank.. or reduced promotion time for first promotion...
I would contact a recruiter (army health care recruiter) to gain basic paperwork for clearance, date for mepps physical etc. Then your packet and past experience can be taken into consideration and 'they' make a decision. Either way I'd say you'll be 'treated' just like everyone else ... army has new grads to experienced nurses entering the force.... full spectrum. As far as entry you will still do the same paperwork and procedures as everyone else and then they will gain some info on your experience to submit to a board so they can decide if and how applicable.
Best of luck - good choice on going army btw!
Thank you for the information. I know I have to get a waiver for my thyroid (no big deal, just take Synthroid every day and have been stable on it for years) and I can't do push ups correctly. My Dad and hubby were in and they both look at me and laugh.......I can run and do sit ups even at my old age (almost 38) and have a good GPA. Just wasn't sure how they would feel about my gap in acute care. I have done some community nursing in the last couple of years on and off to keep my license active, but it has been a while since I have builit a bridge for a Swan-Ganz cathetar ))). Crazy life change, considering I have 2 kids to, but one I am excited about. Are you in the Army right now?
Thanks.
