Not a bedside nurse...

Nurses Career Support

Published

I think I realized shortly after graduating that I am not a bedside nurse. Don't get me wrong, I love taking care of people, but I take the stress of work home with me & my home life and free time have become very important to me. I started out as a CNA for 9years and then worked on a med/surg floor for a year after getting my ASN, then I was a supervisor in a long-term care/rehab facility for a year, now I've been a nurse consultant for a child daycare for 2 years. I'm looking for a change to something that is not bedside yet pays well enough for me to keep my house and support my family as I am expecting our first baby in October. I am all set to go back to school this fall to UCONN's RN-MS program, but I'm not sure what doors a CNL degree will open. I just know I have to do something to get ahead. I have a friend and brother in law in insurance & I am very interested in becoming a nurse reviewer or utilization or case manager. Is anyone here in that field or have any idea how I can make myself more marketable for this?? I feel like my resume doesn't really measure up, but I have no desire to get back into bedside nursing.

How about working in Ambulatory Care or Home Health?

Both are great alternatives to working the bedside
