Just thought I would share the following information for any nurses that specialize in oncology or labor and delivery. Northside is looking for experienced L&D nurses for DAYS!! JOB TITLE: Registered Nurse - Pod RNGENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for providing professional nursing care for clinic patients following established standards and practices. Assists physicians and staff in coordinating patient care. Functions as primary between patients, staff and physicians.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to Oncology Nurse Coordinator.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists supervising physician with patient visit in exam area, including physical assessment and health history. Coordinates care with infusion staff, other facilities and Home Health/Hospice Coordinator.
  • Provides specialized oncology nursing care to patients. Provides back-up support for administration of prescribed medications, chemotherapy and treatments in accordance with nursing standards and practice policies and physician orders. Direct chemotherapy administration support is provided during times of critical staffing need or workload restructure.
  • Observes, documents and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments.
  • Educates patient/family about diagnostic procedures, medications, side effect management, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness.
  • Maintains/reviews accurate patient records, charts and other pertinent information.
  • Responds to/refers incoming patient treatment-related phone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.The jobholder must demonstrate competencies applicable to job position.

  • EDUCATION: RN degree; BSN preferred.
  • LICENSE: Georgia State Board of Nursing.
  • EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 2 years nursing experience with one year of oncology.
  • REQUIREMENTS: Current nursing license in the state of Georgia and current CPR status. National certification in oncology preferred.
  • KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of professional nursing theory, regulations and practices to give and evaluate patient care.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.
  • Knowledge of current diagnostic, treatment and side effect management for oncology and hematology patients.
  • Knowledge of impact of chronic life-threatening illnesses on patients and family.
  • Knowledge of laboratory values and their relationship to the oncology and hematology patient.
  • SKILLS: Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional oncology nursing to provide ongoing patient care.
  • Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
  • Skill in preparing/administering medications and treatments and in documenting all aspects of patient care.
  • Skill in insertion and maintenance of IV catheters and maintenance of central venous catheters.
  • Skills with computer software systems, including EMR and e-mail.
  • ABILITIES: Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations and to work under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, in writing or by phone.
  • ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Combination of office and exam settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
  • PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending and lifting. Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patient's manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
  • The days are Monday - Friday.
