i work nights in psych unit and we get rotation on low census days bec our doctors are moving their patients to other hosp.they are not happy with our hosp. i have to wait by the phone at 9pm and await a call from charge nurse on eves whether i got cancelled or not. :madface:there is 3 of us nurses in night shift and we take turns ....we operate on staff grid and cancel day nurses at 5 am...do u experience this kind of situation?:cry:the only person that dont get low census days is our senior male charge nurse who dont do nothing.:smokin:he just look at the schedule and "entertains and flirts with everybody", or drink coffee and play cards with patients once in a while.....he talks about his kids/grandkids/cars/new watch/wife/cruise/upcoming vacation etc all day..:yeah::yeah:the clerks got sent home anytime if there are lots of discharges and census drops...so with the night staff ie mental health techs..they got to go home at 3am if there is no admission or no patients in our er.
i know i should run fast out of this hole bec this is the pay check that takes care of my family :banghead::banghead:and i dont work anywhere else bec i am also taking care of sick 78year old daddy with ca....thanks for listening and your kind support....:bowingpur:bowingpur:bowingpur:bowingpur

Hey girl! Sorry your going through this. Chin up..one day you will be given an opportunity to take you out of this situation. Have you looked around for another position at the hospital?

ya gotta do what ya gotta do. if eating is mandated by the amount you work, i'd start looking for a new job.

Dust off your resume. You will be better able to care for your father if you are not worried about $$ and whether you "get" to work tonight, probably after sleeping all day.
